Aviators and Heartbreak

Posted by KartuneHustla - November 17th, 2008

I haven't made a post in so long. I disappeared for a while because of school taking up so much of my time, but don't worry people. I have returned!! I know, you guys are so excited

So, I want to clear the air for a second about Wizard Kin. I had to put it on the back burner. You won't see anything Wizard Kin related until Summer time. The reason why I am waiting for Summer is because I wont have to worry about school assignments. I will have three months to finish the five minute premiere of Wizard Kin with no interruptions. But, until then, I will be working on shorts that are at least under 2 and a half minutes. They will probably never be above that. Also, because I had gotten a new tablet, it took me a while to get used to it. Now that I am really good with it, its hard for me to go back to Wizard Kin because I have to restart animation with this new tool

The good thing about my new tablet is that it makes animation go by faster. Now, I have already started a project called Little Aviator. This was going to be my submission for the newgrounds Christmas contest, but Im not to sure if there is going to even be a contest or not. But anyways, back to Little Aviator. So the project is shaping up to be the culmination of everything they have been teaching me in school. Ive been showing a few people close to me my the minute of animation I have so far, and from what they say, they love how fluidly everything moves. I think I could have finished this cartoon a week ago, but I have been being (as always) incredibly attentive to detail. So now that i can draw so fast with the tablet, I have been filling every scene with so many inbetweens that everything moves so smoothly. Its sort of like an actual traditional animation, but in flash. Also, this is the first project where I used Coral Painter X and Storyboarding.
I never use to storyboard, but now Im glad I did because it makes everything so easy and moves the animation process along. Mainly, Little Aviator is an animation exercise for me personally. But not only that, its a story thats really close to my heart. Its about your childhood dreams and i got the inspiration from a small poem called Little Aviator. Hopefully you guys enjoy it when it comes out. I only have another minute of animaiton to complete, but its pretty much going to be done by December 1st. I probably wont release it until the Christmas contest is announced. I seriously hope there is a Christmas contest. I am working super hard on this, that its crazy to think how I even managed to make this animation look so professional. Ive came a long way from my first animation. A very long way

So, before I release Little Aviator, Ill be releasing a making of Little Aviator in the flash forums. This will mostly be a large commentary of how I made it and a tutorial for people who want to make frame by frame cartoons but don't know how to. If you are serious about animation, then you should look out for the making of when i release it. These are the things Ill be going over in the post, and I will be showing you all the materials and files from my project so you can get a real good feel for how to accomplish certain things:
1. Storyboards and Concept art
2. Animatics
3. Finding Voice Actors
4. Animation
5. Backgrounds
6. Visual Effects
7. Submitting
Ill be writing everything I went through to make this animation. Trust me when I say this will atleast help one person out there.

Now I want to talk about an album that is coming out by Kanye West called 808's and Heartbreak. I'll keep this short. Some people out there are saying that Kanye is making a horrible decision by using autotune. I have to disagree. From what I heard so far from the album, this is turning into one of the most emotional albums I've ever heard in my life. This guy is seriously putting his heart on his sleeves with these songs and its even more impressive that he is singing. Now, hes not the best singer out there, but hes not bad either. And the instrumentals definitely fill out the vocals that seem a bit weak. There is one song that sort of gave me chills when I listened to it and I keep feeling the need to animate it when the album comes out. The song is called Coldest Winter. Its one of the best songs on the album next to Robocop and Welcome to Heartbreak (that's just my opinion). Keep your eye out for the album because I have a feeling its gonna be his ( I wouldn't say best) but better than Graduation. I'll just leave it at that.

Well thats all for this week. Next week I'll give an update on Little Aviator. So in conclusion: Little Aviator is gonna be my best animation to date. 808s and Heartbreak will probably be on my Zune on Repeat. Wizard Kin will be continued during the Summer. And after Little Aviator, I will be working on small shorts from time to time.

Also, I want to contribute more to the newgrounds community. So I will be entering contest on newgrounds starting now (I might join some art contest, but I doubt it. Mostly only flash contest). I will try to be a part of more collaborations created by the moderators and prominent flash artist in the community. And I will continue to make high quality flashes just as good as my upcoming Little Aviator. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW HELL YEAH! Da Hustla is back in the game!

Its good to be back my friend

Neat. I always love snooping on how other animators go about working.

I thought it would be something that would be helpful to a few people out there. I know when i was starting out, this kind of thing would have definitely helped me if it was on the interwebs. Thanks for the interest luis

You're a good one! I can't wait to see Little Aviator! :D
