Metropolis Coming Soon

Posted by KartuneHustla - November 3rd, 2007

Well, I would like to thank Newgrounds again for the front page for Actravaganza Vol.1!
I am working on a new project called Metropolis that will be released later this year. I would have posted this in the alphas, but its not working, so whatever. So I thought I'd break it down as if it were an alpha!
1. What is the story behind your latest creation?
A man named Jonathan Thorn is struggling to keep up with his rent. Because of a widespread layoffs in the major cities, many working class citizens have lost their jobs and are forced to protest and live on the streets. Jonathan happens to be in this crowd.
One day, during the scheduled dinner breaks the govenment has set in the state of Newy York, Jonathan and his daughter Elizabeth get something to eat. Jonathan ends up talking to his friend Richard who wants to leave the city and flee to a smaller town. The population growth in the United States have made things incredibly bad in every metropolis, which makes Richard want to leave. However, Jonathan knows it is impossible since the government has stopped travellers from leaving and entering New York.
After dinner, Jonathan and his daughter take a walk through the park. Suddenly, they hear explosions and screams. Jonathan thinks its another job riot, however its something greater. but what?
The government did say they were gonna solve the population problem. Is violence the alternative?

2. Who or what inspired you to begin your production?
Well, my government class really helped me grasp the idea for the story, but the person who inspired me was Adam Philips. His animations make me hope that someday I reach that level of making a movie.

3. How long have you been working on it, and when do you expect to finish?
I have been working on it for three weeks, but I hope that I can finish it before November ends. But it wont be in my hands for a week since I will have my music supervisor score the animation

4. Do you feel that this is better than your previous work? If so, why?
I think this is downright better than anything I have ever attempted because of the effort I have thrown into the frame by frame animation!

5. Do you feel that this is something original? What have you done to make your creation different?
I think the story has never been done before, so people will enjoy a new story arc that isnt about a desolute future or anthing! Plus my style is pretty original since the lines are very messy which are suppose to symbolize the characters, yet not to messy to make the animation look bad. Lets just say it loocks like a moving graphic novel!

6. What has given you the most difficulty during the development process of your new creation?
The most difficult part is of couse the frame by frame animation, but I have been also experimenting with different camera angles, so we well see how that turns out!

7. Have you learned new techniques from making this, and do you plan to use them in the future?
I plan to use my new way of creating backgrounds in the near future. I am finally using a different program to paint my backgrounds and make them look super gritty! Also, I plan to continue using frame by frame animation

8. Besides Flash, did you pull any other programs into the mix to deliver your desired effect?
GIMP, which is like photoshop, but easier for me to use!

9. How do you feel this creation will measure up to other submissions on Newgrounds?
I hope people would find it refreshing and embrace it for its artistic value and its story arc, but I guess we have to wait until it is released!

Here is a screenshot! Wisth me luck!

Sounds great, but maybe a change of name might be in order, due to the fact that rtil already created a flash titled Project Freetown: Metropolis Circuit. It only shows up on the site as Metropolis Circuit, so I thought that people might get the two confused.

Yeah, I watched that months ago, buy people have been growing concerns over if people will get the two confused or not! I really dont want to change it because Metropolis is just a word and no one owns it, not even rtil. However, I will think about changing the title before I release it. Thanks for your concern!

If you need a hand with anything, let me know buddy.

The story sound quite riveting. I can already see the scenes of panic, depression, rage, and the struggle for survival. I do look forward to animation and wish you good luck.

In some ways, your story is the prequel to a movie titled "Soylent Green".

"Set in the year 2022, Soylent Green depicts a dystopian future in which the population has grown to forty million in New York City alone."-Wikipedia

That movie cast a shade of colour I would never would have imagined.

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

Dude you should stop by the RS :3 Nick got the new design up and it looks really cool :D

The flash section isn't working properly, but I am begging him direly to fix that ASAP :D
